I find that the default resolution and scale settings uses 1440p resolution.Using the highest settings made the UI and texts appear so tiny.
Lg Ultrafine 4K Monitor Resolution And Scale Settings Mac OS DefaultsI understand why Mac OS defaults 1440p as the best readable settings for a 22 inch screen But why do we need a 4k monitor to use only a lower resolution Isnt a low cost 1440p Monitor good enough for a 2227 inch screen I have a 2017 MBP and like the LG Ultrafine 4k Monitor but since I will end up with 1440p settings for a comfortable viewing, I wonder if its worth the costs and offers anything different than a low resolution Monitor.

How do you like it compared to other 21 to 27 4k monitors 1 Share Report Save level 1 3 years ago edited 3 years ago Short Answer: PPI Long Answer: Im not an expert and have never found a great, clear, simple explanation on the interwebs but here goes my attempt. The LG UF 4k can display at up to 4096x2304 (horizontal x vertical). The monitor also has the ability to show you 219 of pixels per inch (PPI). That number of PPI is very high, as measured by current consumer monitor standards. When an item (picture, icon, video, etc.) is displayed to you on the LG UF 4k, it should look more clear, more rich, more sharp, etc. Now, when you (roughly) half the horizontal and vertical display output, it (roughly) doubles the size of the items a monitor shows you. Items like icons that were itty-bitty at 4096x2034 should look about twice as big on 2880x1440. This effect is what you are talking about in your post (rightfully so, in my opinion). Essentially, you are asking why we need to buy a 4096x2304 capable monitor when well only use it at 2880x1440 The answer is: Its a little bit of marketing (you need the new-new), little bit of good old fashioned American consumerism (I need me the new-new) (not that theres anything wrong with that), a little bit of the needdesire to fully see the high resolution digital goodness that is available now (4k video, 4k photos, etc.), and a little bit of a kind-of-Moores Law (unbelievably good monitors are relatively cheap today because the technology is improving so fast). Anyway, a high PPI means the monitor will show you very high quality stuff and you wont see jagged lines, fuzzy transitions, or janky-ness ike you will on other monitors. Apple figured this out a long time ago and made up a term - retina to mean anything over 300 PPI (theres more to it but think of 300 PPI for simplicitys sake). The LG UF 4K aint quite retina but its one of the closest consumer monitors out there. Would buy a decent (read moderately priced) 1440 again, probably not the 5k. The LG UFs can get very bright (500nits) and I want that (window behind my monitor) so that is a plus. The LG UF makes my other monitor look positively weak (darker) by comparison. Im going to try LG UF 4k 21 and the lower cost hp envy 4k 27 inch with 1440 resolution and decide to keep one of them.
